Armenia
I’m Harout Taghlian. I’m a builder, designer, project manager, and artist, but I never really liked putting myself into one category.
I work with my hands and my head. I build houses, structures, furniture, installations, and spaces. I design, weld, carve, paint, sculpt, organize projects, and figure things out as I go. Sometimes I’m working on a construction site, sometimes I’m designing something in SketchUp, and sometimes I’m standing in front of a piece of metal or wood trying to understand what it wants to become.
My work comes from a mix of construction, art, music, nature, and the places I live and work in. I’m interested in making things that are useful but still have character — spaces where people can gather, objects that feel alive, and structures that belong to their environment.
A lot of my work has happened in Armenia, especially around the mountains. Working in these places has taught me to work with what is available, adapt to difficult conditions, and find solutions instead of waiting for perfect circumstances.
I’ve worked on private construction projects, hospitality spaces, festivals, stages, sculptures, installations, furniture, and community projects. Every project is different, but the process is usually the same: understand the problem, design a solution, build it, break something, fix it, and keep going.
I’m still learning. I’m still experimenting. And I’m still trying to understand what I can make when I combine all these different parts of myself.
For me, building and making are not separate from art. They are the same language.
